On 12 December, a Cardiff Ambassadors' event was held in London in conjunction with Cardiff Commercial Property Forum. Key people from the property and investment sector attended this event.
Key Note Speaker: Roger Bright MA (Cantab), CB, Chief Executive, Crown Estates

Roger Bright graduated from Cambridge in 1973 and joined the Department of the Environment, where he went on to hold a series of senior positions, including Principal Private Secretary and Press Secretary to the Secretary of State. He left the civil service and became Deputy Chief Executive Officer of the Housing Corporation in 1991, before holding senior posts at the Personal Investment Authority, including Chief Executive, and subsequently Head of the Investment Business (Personal Investment Authority firms) Department at the Financial Services Authority.Roger Bright joined The Crown Estate in June 1999 as Director of Finance and Administration and was appointed to the Board in April 2000. In June 2001 he was appointed chief executive of The Crown Estate, taking up the post on 1 September 2001. In addition, he is a member of the Governing Council of City University; and a non-executive director of London First and of Heritage of London Trust.
Cardiff Ambassadors Gala Dinner 2011
On the 3rd November 2011, Cardiff Ambassadors came together in the prestigious surroundings of City Hall, Cardiff to celebrate the work of the Ambassador programme. Guests met fellow Ambassadors, celebrated Cardiff and helped raise money for Richard Parks' 737 Challenge.
Learning Design Lessons – A Business Breakfast at UWIC
In October 2011 UWIC held a business breakfast during Cardiff Design Festival 2011 in conjunction with Cardiff Ambassadors and its Cardiff School of Art and Design.
The event was supported by Cardiff Council and the keynote address reported on a case study of the Dutch Design Week in Eindhoven,looking at what inspiration Cardiff can take from that city on how to work with stakeholders to promote itself as a creative city.
Speakers at the event were Hans Robertus, Director, Design Cooperation Brainport - Dutch Design Week, Envoy of Philips Design and Sophie van Hof, Municipality of Eindhoven.
Wales Launch of @CreativeCardiff
21 September 2011,Wales Millennium Centre - Following the successful London launch, over 150 guests attended the Wales Launch of @CreativeCardiff. The event provided businesses in Cardiff the opportunity to hear more about the promotional showcase designed to profile the creative economy in the Cardiff city-region between October and November. Monday, 12 September 2011 Professor Ian Hargreaves presented his key note speech ' Creative Wales & the Copyright Challenge' at the launch of @CreativeCardiff, a two month long showcase of the creative industries in the Cardiff city-region. This showcase is to promote the richness of creative talent within the city-region and its contribution to wealth and prosperity. Held at BAFTA, 195 Piccadilly, London, this event was attended by over 100 guests.
Biography: Professor Ian Hargreaves
Ian Hargreaves is Professor of Digital Economy at Cardiff University and author of Digital Opportunity, a review of intellectual property issues and their effect on economic growth for the UK Government, published in May, which followed his earlier review for the Welsh Government of Creative Industries. In this speech, Professor Hargreaves will for the first time draw together his thinking about the prospect for Wales' creative economy in the context of the rapidly changing digital technologies and the challenges this brings for the protection of copyright. Professor Ian Hargreaves holds the chair of Digital Economy at the Cardiff School of Journalism, Media and Cultural Studies and Cardiff Business School. His career in British journalism includes Deputy Editor at the Financial Times, Director of BBC News & Current Affairs, and Editor of The Independent and the New Statesman.

' Cardiff: Celtic Tiger or Celtic Kitten?'
Monday July 4 2011, another Cardiff Ambassadors Event was held in London. This event was organised with the support of Capital Law and was attended by over 100 guests.
The event began with an address by Kevin Gardiner, Head of Investment Strategy, Barclays Wealth, followed by the London launch of Cardiff's Central Business District project by Cllr Rodney Berman, Leader and Jon House, Chief Executive of Cardiff Council.
Kevin Gardiner, is currently the Head of Investment Strategy, Barclays Wealth, he joined Barclays Wealth in September 2009. He is a member of the Investment Committee that shapes asset allocation views for client portfolios, and leads a team of analysts based in London, New York, Singapore and Mumbai.
Prior to joining Barclays Wealth, Kevin worked for several investment banks in a financial market career stretching back twenty-five years. He started his career as an economist at the Bank of England. In 1994, while working as an economist at Morgan Stanley, he wrote the “Celtic Tiger” report on the Irish economy.
Kevin was educated at Hywel Dda Primary School and Glan Ely Comprehensive, Atlantic College, the London School of Economics and Cambridge University. He is a Governor at Atlantic College, and a retained CFA speaker.
Cardiff Ambassadors May 2011 London Networking Event
On 16 May 2011, a networking event was held at Nash Room, IOD, 116 Pall Mall, London. The speaker for this evening was Professor Sir Christopher Evans OBE, Group Chairman - Excalibur Fund Managers. Sir Christopher is regarded as one of Europe’s leading biotechnology entrepreneurs. He has a proven track record of establishing successful, high-quality science companies, twenty of which have been taken public. These companies have made substantial returns for their venture capital and institutional backers and employ more than 3,500 people. Of note is Chiroscience plc, started by Sir Christopher with £1 million in 1992 and grown to £600 million by 1997 before merging with Celltech plc, which in turn has merged with UCB to create one of Europe’s flagship bioscience enterprises.
Sir Christopher’s considerable contributions to the biotechnology industry have been honoured with a Knighthood in the 2001 New Year’s Honours List and an OBE in the 1995 New Year’s Honours List. In 1996, Sir Christopher founded Excalibur Fund Managers (formerly Merlin Biosciences).
