Thousands in Dublin claim fear of flying to get to Cardiff

Dubliners hypnotised by Cardiff

When Dublin 98 Radio launched a competition to hypnotise ten listeners with a fear of flying and then fly them to Cardiff, they were inundated with calls – literally thousands. The lucky ten, depending how you look at it, were hypnotised in Dublin by the famous Irish illusionist, Keith Barry and then flown to Cardiff courtesy of Aer Arran.

The hypnotherapy was a success with only one person unable to overcome their phobia.  The remaining nine were greeted at the airport by Cardiff & Co and taken to the Cardiff International Food and Drink Festival at Cardiff Bay by Edwards Coaches to sample delicacies from Wales, France and Germany.

Richard Thomas, Cardiff & Co’s Managing Director said, “This is probably the most unusual request we have received to date but the nine brave souls hypnotised in Dublin, were mesmerized by their visit to Cardiff.  Sceptics might even suggest that the ‘brave nine’ are, in actual fact, seasoned flyers, who having browsed through the UK’s summer calendar of events realised that Cardiff was the place to be on Friday, with the first Ashes Test in full swing and the opening of the International Food and Drink Festival.”

He added, “One of the listeners of Dublin 98 Radio Station hadn’t flown in over twenty two years and after an enjoyable day at Cardiff’s International Food and Drink Festival, she vowed that she would fly again in the near future.  Our Celtic friends were visiting Cardiff for the first time and in the relaxing atmosphere of Cardiff Bay, some needed extra encouragement to make their way back to coach, waiting to take them to Cardiff Airport.  We enjoyed hosting them and hope they will come back again in the not too distant future.”
