Six of the Cardiff's best shortlisted for world class design

Six buildings in Cardiff have been shortlisted by the Royal Institute of British Architecture – in recognition of excellence in design.
They join a shortlist of new builds selected from across the UK and continental Europe. Nominated for this prestigious award are: 3 Assembly Square, Chapter Arts Centre, Central Library, Sleeperz Hotel, The Teenage Cancer Trust’s Skypad unit and the new WJEC headquarters.
Commenting, Hywel Thomas from Cardiff & Co said, “This is excellent news for Cardiff and reflects the significant recent investment in the city’s built environment. It will inspire confidence in the capital, both as an investment location and visitor destination.”
He added, “The importance of good architecture should not be underestimated in terms of how a city is perceived and how it wishes to be perceived. A fact not lost on the 3rd Marquess of Bute in his vision for Cardiff’s civic centre over 100 years ago – now considered amongst the finest in Europe. It is a reflection of civic pride and a statement of intent in terms of the city’s aspirations.”
